Feeling and looking good isn’t for your husband or partner……
I am sick of hearing men complaining about how their wives have ‘let themselves go’ since having kids. Meanwhile they are getting fatter and perving on young women believing they could have a younger/firmer model.
Ego and reality check please!!.
Men and women deserve to feel good. Advertising would have us believe it is a woman’s duty to look good and keep their husband from straying. Blow that!!!
We need to take back control and start feeling good just for ourselves.
Listed below are some things I have implemented into my lifestyle. Although with writing this I must admit that a tummy bug recently ripped through my household and I was in survival mode which consisted of trackies, coffee, red bull and chocolate. So we have our bad days and I am definitely not a health guru. Below are things I consistently try to do and when I do I feel loads better.
Get up 30-40 minutes before the rest of your family and do some light exercise. I do yoga which helps to get my mind and body set for the morning onslaught. If your house is like mine it can be absolute chaos getting out the door on time. This helps with the stress. I HATE getting out of bed especially in winter but if I don’t my morning seems a lot more stressful. Try it and keep it up for a couple of weeks.
Sometimes I wonder where my brain has gone! It’s consumed with family/household demands and conversations are primarily concerned with kids, school, kindy, domestic issues etc. To find the time and money to study is a luxury we just can’t afford. My husband sensing my frustration found this on-line learning company. It’s free and its flexibility allows you to work at your own pace. Some weeks I can do loads and others very little. The pressure of a deadline isn’t an issue. A range of subjects are on offer for example yoga, information and technology, business, beauty and languages. Some courses require you to pay for your certificate on completion whilst others can be printed off for free. Since being out of the workforce I felt left behind by technology and a little intimidated by it. So I did a couple of Microsoft courses and this helped me to overcome some of my fears. It is a lovely little high to complete a course and print off a certificate. Also it’s fun to explore new areas of interest and maybe find an occupation you want to pursue in the future. It’s just great to get a certificate to acknowledge a job well done!
I love a good coffee but try having a big glass of cold lemon water when you get up. Some like hot lemon water but I prefer the refreshing cold version. I have a coffee a bit later in the morning and it tastes better.
Being healthy is important but giving yourself a little treat or reward is also necessary. My kids call this ‘mummy’s treat’. After the bedtime routine is done I give myself a row of Cadbury Dairymilk. I look forward to it every night and I feel like I truly deserve it. I don’t go crazy but have just a little bit. Some people go for wine but I prefer that only at the weekend. Wine is too wicked for me!!
I do try to at least start the day healthy. Being consistent is my aim. I am a sugar addict and when I am low in energy I do often grab a scotch finger biscuit or chocolate. I now pack a little container with dates, nuts and carrot sticks in my bag to try and at least have a healthy option. I am a work in progress and try to make healthy choices. Although I am no saint and treats are important!!
Glam it up a bit. This is purely for yourself. It is easy to throw on the comfy functional clothes especially when you are busy taking care of everyone else. The night before plan your rig out for the next day and lay it out. That way in a rush you can grab the clothes already there. Simple but boy you feel good when you don’t leave the house looking and feeling like a dag. Tidy your hair and a little lippy or mascara goes a long way. We all have our own style but you do feel better and more in control when you dress well. I don’t care if I’m at home all day I get dressed nicely just to make myself feel good.
Feet and hands! We use both non stop during the day and at the end of the day both suffer. Especially my feet which crack and get very sore. I have used loads of different products from expensive to cheap. At the counter in Kmart I picked this product up for $2 and it works great. In the shower I give my feet a scrub with the stone and after drying apply this cream to both my hands and feet. The best $2 I have ever spent!!
NOISE!! I feel like I’m surrounded by constant noise and this puts my mind in a state of chaos. Kids, shopping centres, school, kindy, driving, radio, tv etc we are under assault!! Once a month I find taking myself to a place of nature ALONE helps to clear and refresh my mind. At first the quiet used to make me frantic but after an hour a state of peace washes over me. I’m not a big outdoors person but it is very therapeutic.
It is hard to have a shower in peace let alone take good care of your skin. A good way to kill two birds with one stone is to put a little bit of extra virgin olive oil in your hands and rub it all over your body whilst showering. Water needs to be warm and if you don’t like the smell of the oil try infusing it with lavender. Keep it in a little bottle in the shower. It’s cheap, easy and doesn’t take any extra time in your day. I don’t know about you but as soon as I enter the shower the kids seem to need things all of a sudden.
